It’s been almost 2 years since Alex Trebek’s death from pancreatic cancer. Although he was more well known as the long-standing host on Jeopardy!, Trebek also graced our screens as the pitchman for Colonial Penn.

With Trebek gone, Colonial Penn had to pick a new spokesman for its commercials and ads. Jonathan Lawson is now the face you see whenever a Colonial Penn advertisement runs. But who is Johnathan Lawson and does it make sense to buy what he’s selling?

Here’s what you should know about Johnathan Lawson and why Colonial Penn offers one of the worst final expense life insurance products of all companies.

Who is Jonathan Lawson of Colonial Penn?

Jonathan Lawson of Colonial Penn is listed as a Director of Quality Assurance & Escalations for CNO Financial Group in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as of September 2021. CNO Financial Group is the parent company of the Colonial Penn brand.

But before working for CNO directly, Lawson spent 15 years working for Colonial Penn in Philadelphia, according to the TV ad you’ve probably seen.

He began in September 2014 as a customer service manager and became a telesales manager in October 2016. His current employment on LinkedIn shows both his position with CNO and as customer service manager at Colonial Penn.

After graduating high school, he served this great country in the Marine Corps. While pursuing his Bachelor’s in Business Administration at Peirce College, he also worked full time for Colonial Penn.

Does Jonathan Lawson Actually Work for Colonial Penn?

Yes, Jonathan Lawson does actually work for Colonial Penn, according to his LinkedIn profile and Colonial Penn’s TV ads.

As a Colonial Penn employee, he works with seniors to educate them on the limitations of Social Security death benefits and what their life insurance options are. Of course, he tries to steer seniors towards Colonial Penn’s $9.95 per month unit final expense life insurance plans.

Who is Jonathan Lawson's Wife?

We cannot confirm who Jonathan Lawson’s wife is, or even if he’s married or single. Those details appear to be private, and not public, information.

What is Jonathan Lawson's Net Worth?

We also cannot confirm Jonathan Lawson’s net worth. There are many Jonathan Lawson’s in the U.S., and without unique identifying details, it’s hard to say what details are accurate for the correct Jonathan Lawson from Colonial Penn.

Some say Jonathan Lawson’s net worth is around $1 million, while others speculate it’s as much as $17 million. Like his marital status, Jonathan Lawson’s net worth is a mystery that is not public information.

Is Jonathan Lawson an Actor?

Technically, Jonathan Lawson is an actor because he is in the Colonial Penn TV commercials. There is an IMDb biography for a Jonathan Lawson born on June 3, 1980, who also served in the Marine Corps, but we can’t confirm it’s the same Jonathan Lawson.

If it is, the bio shows Jonathan Lawson was an assistant director in 2013 and a producer in 2014. He was also a production coordinator that same year and appeared as himself in the documentary short, War Times, in 2013.

However, these experiences don’t show on his LinkedIn profile, but neither does his time in the Marine Corps. The only experience listed is his time as a manager for Colonial Penn and Director for CNO Financial Group.

Is the Jonathan Lawson Colonial Penn $9.95 Per Month Final Expense Plan for Seniors Worth it?

Jonathan Lawson promotes Colonial Penn’s $9.95 per month final expense plan for seniors. We don’t think it’s worth it for seniors, as there are cheaper options available.

The Colonial Penn 9.95 plan is a whole life policy for seniors that seems like a great deal, but it’s not. It’s actually one of the worst deals for senior life insurance we’ve come across.

That’s because Colonial Penn is deceptive about what you’re actually getting when you buy life insurance for seniors. Instead of getting a guaranteed death benefit dollar amount, you buy units.

Each unit equals a certain amount of coverage you pay $9.95 per month for. The maximum you can get is 12 units of coverage.

And the worst part? The older you are, the less coverage per unit you get. Take a look at the chart below.
